Nami, Artist
Nami’s inspiration comes from Korean culture and history, which is why the Korean lucky bag and pots are common in her work. Her bold colours - red, yellow, blue, white, black - are the most used in traditional Korean art.
She works primarily with Korean Colours on Korean paper; Korean Colours is a type of paint that resembles watercolours but has more elastic and vibrant qualities. Korean paper, called Hanji, is a traditional handmade paper made from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree.
The pins and faux stitching are Nami's unique style - her method of making connections between the traditional and the modern.
She also works with watercolours, and mixed media.
Nami was born in Jinju, South Korea and graduated in fine arts from Gyeongnam University in Masan, South Korea. She has 12 years experience teaching art to children in public schools and has for many years taught privately in her own studio to people of all ages.
She has shown her art in many group exhibitions throughout South Korea, Japan and China, including five solo exhibitions.
Nami is a member of the Jinju Women Artists, a long established, well-known and respected group of 27 artists. Membership is by invitation only.
She is currently visiting in Canada, painting and studying English.
